Volunteers Needed for Broadcom Presents: Design_CODE_Build

Inspire Middle School Students to Stick with STEM

The Broadcom Foundation and the Computer History Museum are partners in a new outreach initiative called Broadcom Presents: Design_CODE_Build that teaches Bay Area middle school students to think critically to solve problems and work in teams to assemble a computer, design a computer program and have fun doing it!

You have the unique opportunity to volunteer at Broadcom Presents: Design_CODE_Build and participate in activities that explore the basics of computer programming, from concept to coding. Each event allows students to actively learn in a hands-on environment while interacting with industry professionals and role models. Students learn that they can become creators of technology, not just consumers.

Volunteer roles include the following:

·         Keynote as a “rock star” for a five minute opening to share your personal story

·         Work hands-on with the kids to support basic programming activities

·         Be a generalist and meet and greet the students and talk about career paths

Event activities include building and programming a Raspberry Pi, designing instruction sets to navigate a life-sized maze, and working with Museum docents to investigate historic methods of computer programming.
