CASPA is committed to nurture the next generation of our community in developing their strength and leadership in science and technology to become successful adults.  This educational event focuses on introducing good methodologies for students at middle & high school levels to develop skills for future achievements in academia, personal finance and leadership. We will discuss project-based learning by Broadcom Foundation and its significance to students for developing interests and skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). IvyMax will talk about building character and the significance of winning science awards. A panel of local outstanding high school graduates will share their experiences with the audiences on how they overcame tough challenges and accomplished greatness in their life.


All students from local middle schools to high schools and their parents are welcome to attend CASPA’s Education Day on Saturday June 21st, 2014. You will enjoy a wonderful afternoon at Draper University in San Mateo learning and interacting with these distinguished speakers and panelists on how to develop a life-long plan to grow.


Keynote Speakers

Shin Wei

As CEO, Mr. Shin Wei is responsible for setting the overall direction and product strategy for IvyMax. His industry experience includes 24 years in advanced software design, 15 years as a senior executive, and a decade of college counseling expertise. Mr. Wei began his career on Wall Street while attending graduate school at UPenn. He then joined Andersen’s (now Accenture) Advanced Technology Groups in Chicago as Senior Manager before founding Advante, a strategic consultancy where he served as Senior Advisor and Acting CTO or VP of Engineering for Internet startups.


He later joined Brience as Managing Principal and Director of Professional Services. At Brience, a wireless enterprise software company with $200 million in VC funding, he built Professional Services to an 80-person organization that served more than 50 Fortune 100 companies.


In 2000, Mr. Wei started helping aspiring students get admitted to Harvard, Princeton, Yale, UPenn, Stanford, MIT, Caltech, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and other prestigious universities. Subsequently, Mr. Wei co-founded IvyMax to specialize in premier college planning, applications, and test prep services utilizing industry-best experts and state-of-the-art memory engine online technology. Mr. Wei has been frequently featured on Sing Tao Chinese Radio, KTSF TV26, ETTV, LA18 KSCI-TV, the largest Asian language TV station in America, and other leading print and on-air media in the US and in Greater China. Mr. Wei holds a BSE and an MSE in Computer Science & Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.


Maria Wronski

As Treasurer of the Broadcom Foundation and Assistant Director for Community Affairs, Maria Wronski is responsible for managing the foundation's $100M portfolio and implementing public outreach campaigns for its premier STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Math) initiatives, the Broadcom MASTERS® and Broadcom MASTERS® International. The Broadcom Foundation is the charitable arm of Broadcom, a Fortune 500 company with over 12,000 employees worldwide.


Maria’s role with the Broadcom Foundation follows on the heels of an extraordinary twelve year career with Broadcom where she served as  Vice President, Enterprise Risk Management with responsibility for Broadcom’s global risk management and business continuity programs and Vice President, Treasurer of Broadcom Corporation with responsibility for the company’s global cash operations and investments, capital structure and debt financing, credit and collections, risk management and employee equity programs.  Prior to her tenure at Broadcom, Maria held leadership finance and management positions at Netigy Corporation and Western Digital.  Maria holds a degree in Finance from California State University, Long Beach and received her Masters in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.


Maria has played a leadership role in the Broadcom MASTERS® since its inception in 2010. The Broadcom MASTERS is the premier middle school science and engineering competition designed to inspire young people to stay engaged in math and science throughout high school in order to become the scientists, engineers and innovators of the future.
