Essential Functions:
•    As Director, Software Engineering, reporting to the Senior Director of SRDC Software, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and leading the multi disciplined software team based in Shanghai (including developers, testers, Managers, Project Managers).

•    Key to the team’s success is the ability of the successful candidate to develop a world class high performance team and collaborating with North American leaders to build positive and cooperative global working relationships within the Software organization.

•    The Director, while partnering with North American based leaders, will manage work assignments and coordinate results globally, be responsible for building and motivating a high performance team as well as developing strong relationships with APAC OEM and AiB customers. This role requires considerable use of initiative and independent judgment – all within a framework of a tightly-coordinated, uniformly-executing global team. The incumbent must have strong skills in project management, people management, communication and technology. In addition, the Director will demonstrate his/her competencies with respect to collaboration; customer focus and building of high performing teams.

•    SRDC is AMD’s center of excellence for Software customer support. The Director will be required to continue to evolve our Customer Support model and work in close collaboration with the Technical Program Management teams to continue to raise customer satisfaction levels.

Requirement

Requirements/Qualifications:

•    A minimum of B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent. Preferably an advanced Computer Science or Engineering degree ( M.Sc. or Ph.D.)

•    10+ years of progressive management experience in a in a large, fast paced software environment

•    Experience with resource management of multiple teams and multiple projects
Proven mentoring and coaching abilities
Strong knowledge of sound software development processes
Solid understanding of the Windows graphics environment
Must be a team player, problem solver and have a “can do” attitude
Strong leadership and communication skills (English and Mandarin, both written and verbal) are key
Must work well under pressure and have the ability to multi task effectively

Critical Competencies for Success
•    Creativity.  AMD is the underdog in the CPU wars.  Intel is able to outspend them, and it is therefore important that the company be creative and aggressive in the use of its marketing dollars.
•    Ability to deal with complexity.  This is one of the most complex marketing jobs that exist.  Consumers, corporate accounts, retailers, channels, system integrators, the government and PC manufacturers both very large and very small must all be influenced.  There are many ways in which AMD can spend its money; distilling this complexity down to the key issues and executing on them is critical.
•    Tenacity.  Individuals who aspire to an easy life in a company with a dominant position will struggle in this role.  Although AMD has many allies, and the desire among all parties for an alternative to Intel is very strong, the fact is that the company is an underdog.  While this is clearly an opportunity to perform, it will require a strong will to deal with setbacks.
•    Leadership.  The ability to bring the team together, motivate them to do battle, and to bring the best ideas to the surface is essential.  
•    Business Savvy.  This is a key leadership role in Greater China and the individual is likely a candidate to succeed the General Manager role in due course and has to demonstrate a very high degree of business acumen.
